Application Engineering

ASG_application_engineers.jpgExperienced application engineers evaluate each project. Based on their extensive process expertise, they evaluate each application, and then concept and quote the best robotic system to meet each customer’s automation needs. This may be a standard “World” solution, modified “World” solution – or a completely unique custom system.

Our application engineers have the process expertise and knowledge to apply Motoman’s highly advanced robotic technology in innovative ways to solve customer’s toughest automation challenges. Application Engineers and specialists also do simultaneous engineering for many customers to allow them to reduce both product and system cost.

Project Management

project_gantt.gifA Project Manager is assigned to every AG project. The Project Manager coordinates all details of a project to ensure that all needs and resources are balanced to meet the customer’s schedule, delivery and budget requirements. Our goal is always total customer satisfaction.

Scheduling, design reviews, approvals, engineering change orders, etc. are all coordinated through the Project Manager. Motoman is ISO 9001:2015 certified, and our customers can be assured that we have procedures in place to make sure projects are well-organized and executed to the highest level of performance. The efforts of the Engineering Team, Manufacturing, and programmers are all coordinated through the Project Manager.

Mechanical Engineering

ASG_mechanical_engineering.jpgAG has Mechanical Engineers who are responsible for design, build, and implementation of all of the mechanical functions related to a system. This includes overall layout, pneumatics, grippers, process equipment (excluding vision), and the mechanical aspects of safety. ASG Mechanical Engineers will often use AutoCad or 3-D modeling software (SolidEdge), and state of the art simulation tools like MotoSim EG to perform reach studies and cycle time checks, and confirm cell layout prior to final approval and build.

Motoman utilizes state-of-the-art simulation tools like MotoSim EG to aid in the concept and design of robotic automation solutions. To reduce project risk, simulation software is used to verify system form, fit, function, throughput, and ergonomics prior to project execution.

Electrical Engineering

ladder.gifAG Electrical Engineers are responsible for systems integration from an electrical hardware design standpoint. This includes all electrical functions, electrical design, layouts, cable routing. Electrical engineers also do the remaining aspects of safety that are not the responsibility of the mechanical engineer. Any vision system integration is also the responsibility of the electrical engineer.

Controls Engineering

ASG_controls_engineering.jpgAG Controls Engineers are responsible for all aspects of integration from a software standpoint. They integrate the robot systems with PCs or PLCs, line controllers, etc. and design custom Human Machine Interfaces (HMIs).

Controls engineers do all the PLC programming, concurrent I/O programming, and I/O handshaking required to integrate the robots with various other equipment in a system.

Demo Lab

Motoman maintains a multi-million dollar demo lab in which to prove out a customer’s process, often using actual production parts and proposed equipment.
