Helpful Hints

Each issue of Motoman Direct includes "helpful hints" designed to provide bits of practical advice and programming tips that will help our customers maximize the productivity of their Motoman robots.

FULL-SPEED TEST
Some processes have a need for full-speed operation while teaching.  This is sometimes made difficult because the robot is limited to a 25% joint speed in Teach mode.  Applications such as coordinated motion welding, material removal, dispensing and waterjet cutting may use a low TCP speed, but need to roll some joints faster than 25% to achieve the selected speed. The ANSI/RIA R15.06-1999 safety standard has provisions for High Speed Attended Program Verification.  After verifying that your system meets these specifications (found in Section 10.8.3 of the ANSI/RIA standard), Full-Speed Test can be enabled on your Motoman robot(s).

MODIFY TARGET GROUP AXES (Multiple Robot Control)
Motoman robot controllers have a coordinated motion function that allows multiple control groups to be controlled by the same job (robot program).  Examples of this would be one job controlling both Robot 1 and Robot 2 (R1 + R2) or one job controlling Robot 1 and Station 1 (R1 + S1).  In cells that use multiple robot control, you sometimes might need to modify the programming for one control group while not affecting the other.  Normally, when a move instruction is edited, current positions in all control groups are re-recorded.  By enabling the Modify Target Group Axis function, you can modify each control group separately.  To enable this function, display the job to be edited in Teach mode, touch Edit, at the top of the screen, then cursor to Modify Target Axis and press Select.  Now when you press the Modify key, a dialog box will appear and ask "Modify Target Axis?  Yes or No."  By choosing "Yes," only the group that you have motion control over will be modified.  The other group's positions will remain un-edited.  If "No" is selected, editing is canceled.  To disable this function, touch Edit, cursor to Modify Target Group Axis and press Select to remove the check mark.
