Are you looking for a game-changing experience where you can sharpen your skills and deepen your automation knowledge? If so, look no further than the Automate Show! Presented by the Association for Advancing Automation (A3), Automate 2023 will feature the largest and most inspiring collection of robotic automation in North America. From tried-and-true technologies to AI-powered automation, robotic solutions to address nearly every application will be on display.

Held at Huntington Place Convention Center in Detroit, Michigan (May 22-25), Automate is set to host over 25,000 attendees and 500 exhibitors from around the world, including Yaskawa. Experts from our Robotics Division, as well as our Drives & Motion Division, will be on hand to discuss your specific application requirements in booth #3223. Plus, gain inspiration for your production floor from the following demonstrations:

Handling

High-Speed Induction Workcell

Featuring the extremely fast six-axis GP12 robot, this demonstration highlights the use of efficient and reliable robotic automation for meeting order fulfillment demands. Designed for high transfer capability, the GP12 offers a 1,440 mm horizontal reach, 2,511 mm vertical reach and a 12 kg payload capacity.

Fizyr AI deep-learning software in conjunction with the Zivid Two 3D camera will also be on display, showcasing the use of human-like vision for intelligent 3D scene capturing that helps the robot achieve pick rates of 1,200-1,700 per hour for a wide range of objects. Highly flexible conveyors from Dynamic™ Conveyor Corporation (DynaCon) and Dorner are also shown, along with safety guarding by Advanced Machine Guarding Solutions (AMGS).

Efficient Small-Part Processing

Equipped with the fast and compact six-axis GP7 robot and the four-axis SG650 SCARA robot, this workstation demonstrates precise operation for small part production. Well-suited for assembly and sortation, as well as multi-process systems requiring pick-and-place capability, the GP7 offers a 972 mm horizontal reach, 1,693 mm vertical reach and a 7 kg payload capacity, and the SG650 features a 650 mm radial reach, 210 mm long U-axis stroke and 6-kg payload capacity. The SG650 is also controlled by the compact YRC1000micro controller that has a small footprint (425 W x 125 H x 280 D mm), and it can be installed in either a vertical or horizontal position, as well as within a 19-inch rack. Both robots use a lightweight standard teach pendant with a user-friendly touchscreen interface, enabling fast and easy programming.

Collaborative Robot Palletizing

Featuring the HC30PL collaborative robot, this system facilitates robust palletizing capability for demanding environments. Ideal for safe and efficient fenceless production, the HC30PL cobot with Power and Force Limiting (PFL) technology constantly monitors force and quickly reacts to contact, and it offers a 30 kg payload capacity and up to 1,700 maximum reach to expertly support select handling, packaging and logistical tasks. Other key robot features include: 1) a plug and play tool flange (based on EN ISO-9409-1) to connect a wide variety of end-of-arm tooling for fast and simple deployment, 2) an IP67 rating and easy-to-clean surface for reliable operation in damp or splash-prone environments, as well as use in sanitary settings where wipe or washdown is required, 3) NSF H1 certified food-grade grease for use in facilities where there is the chance of incidental food contact, and 4) a thru-arm category 6 Ethernet cable, I/O cable and dual 5 mm ID air lines to eliminate external utilities, while offering fast, safe and easy setup for a range of communication and tooling options.

The HC30PL on display is controlled by the YRC1000micro robot controller with intuitive Smart Pendant (Version 3.0 shown). Radically changing how a robot is programmed, the Smart Pendant’s patented, built-in Smart Frame technology helps determine the user’s orientation relative to the robot. This makes the robot user the frame of reference, eliminating the use of conventional coordinate (X,Y,Z) frames and enabling easy programming for fast system deployment. The Smart Pendant on display features Pallet Builder™ – Yaskawa’s new, ease of use no-code palletizing platform. Ideal for users with limited robotic experience, this software tool is ideal for small- to medium-sized companies with high-mix, low-volume production, and it can support up to eight combined stations with multiple grippers/gripper types. Pallet Builder is compatible with GP-series and HC-series robots.

Welding

Collaborative Welding Workcell

Part of our proven line of ArcWorld® workcells, the ArcWorld HC is a portable job shop designed for human-collaborative (HC) interaction. Well-suited for optimizing small- to medium-sized part production for medium volume runs, this highly flexible solution with perforated Flextur™ table comes pre-engineered with arc flash protection, provisions for fume mitigation and an IP67-rated HC10DTP collaborative robot for use in harsh welding environments. Ideal for supplementing manual welding or for rolling up to large heavy workpieces, this six-axis cobot with a 1,379 mm maximum reach and 10 kg payload capacity offers intuitive hand-guided teaching, and it includes Power and Force Limiting technology that enables operation with or in close proximity to human workers. The presence of PFL enables safe operation at collaborative speed or the shift to full speed in industrial mode as production demands evolve. An integrated weld package with a Fronius power supply is shown, but all major brands are compatible. This demonstration also highlights Yaskawa’s intuitive Universal Weldcom Interface (UWI) pendant application that helps users gain easy control of any weld process or parameter.

High-Volume Welding Workcell

Designed to optimize medium- to large-sized part production, the pre-engineered ArcWorld 6200 (AW6200) welding workcell features two streamlined six-axis AR1440 arc welding robots with a 1,440 mm horizontal reach, 2,511 mm vertical reach, 12 kg payload capacity and an expanded wrist range for improved application flexibility. A sealed-drive AC servo-driven RM2-1275 Ferris-wheel positioner utilizes the MotoMount™ fixture mounting system that enables the positioner to be lagged directly to the floor and eliminates the need for precision alignment or machined bases. Multiple robot control with coordinated motion between devices is displayed using a single teach pendant.

The AW6200 includes an integrated weld package (Miller® power supply option shown), as well as the UWI that enables full utilization of power supply capabilities. Shipped on a common base with integrated cable management for easy setup, this workcell also features enhanced safeguarding, including an FSU. Safety fencing by WireCrafters is shown.

Wandelbots TracePen Demo

Designed for simple no-code robot programming, the Wandelbots TracePen will be featured in this hands-on demo with an AR1440 arc welding robot that uses the high-performance YRC1000 controller. Come see how this hand-held stylus, combined with a true industrial robot, can enable easy programming for fast, accurate part welding.

Programming

Hands-On Programming Experience

Featuring three flexible HC10DTP collaborative robots with direct-teach capability, this interactive demonstration allows booth visitors to safely hand guide a collaborative robot for an easy-to-use robot programming experience. The user-friendly touchscreen Smart Pendant with built-in Classic Interface function will also be featured, as well as gripper technology from Schmalz, Schunk, SMC and Zimmer.

Drives & Motion

Robust Singular Control

This demo displays the new iCube Control™ machine control platform that provides the flexibility of open system design, the scalability of modular system integration, and the certainty of safety and support for which Yaskawa is known. This product also features a hands-on demonstration of Yaskawa’s new iCube Engineer software engineering tool.
