New Robots and Advanced Technology Introduced at IMTS

As markets continue to shift and customer demands get more sophisticated, it is imperative for companies to stay competitive. Dedicated to enabling our customers to achieve noticeable improvements in flexibility, productivity and quality through the development of revolutionary technologies for robotic automation, Yaskawa Motoman will feature the latest advanced solutions at the 2018 International Manufacturing Technology Show (IMTS), September 10-15 at McCormick Place in Chicago, Illinois.

America’s largest manufacturing show, IMTS will host over 2,000 exhibiting companies and over 115,000 buyers and sellers from 117 countries. In three weeks, attendees will see demonstrations in the Yaskawa booth (#236601, North Building) that include several new robots, turnkey workcells, collaborative technology and innovative advancements designed to enhance manufacturing productivity for operations of varying sizes and industry sectors.

Our exhibit will feature:

Robots and Workcells

  • The heavy-duty, large reach MH900 robot is the latest addition to Yaskawa’s line of material handling robots. Designed and assembled in the U.S.A., the MH900 has a 900 kg payload capacity, a 4,683 mm horizontal reach and a 6,209 mm vertical reach to easily accommodate a range of large heavy components, such as car frames and agricultural equipment.
  • Equipped with the highest acceleration speeds in a small-size robot, the new light weight (7 kg) MotoMini is the industry’s smallest and lightest six-axis robot. It is ideal for tabletop-, floor-, ceiling- or wall-mount installations, saving valuable floorspace. This robot can be mounted close to workpieces and other machinery in existing lines or cells. The MotoMini is ideal for a variety of applications, such as small component assembly, case packing and more.
  • Designed to work safely with, or in close proximity to human workers, the new human-collaborative HC10 robot will be featured in a machine tending workcell. The HC10 features power and force limiting technology to protect workers from potentially harmful contact situations. This six-axis robot offers a 10-kg payload capacity and a 1,200 mm reach. Hand-guided teaching allows for fast deployment or redeployment on demand. It is easily adaptable and can be integrated with existing automation.
  • We’ve recently introduced several new GP-series robots. These powerful, efficient robots are available with payload capacities from 7 kg to 600 kg and are designed for a wide range of handling applications. The featured GP8 model will demonstrate high-speed, small part handling.
  • A scalable, integrated spot welding system – featuring two robot models with different payloads – will display how multiple robots can be synchronized with a part positioner for high production in a compact footprint. Our new SP-series spot welding robots with fast axis speeds and acceleration will also be highlighted.
  • The ArcWorld® 1200, a pre-engineered arc welding workcell, offers a customer-driven design, new standard options and a complete safety environment. The ArcWorld 1200 features the new Motoman® AR1440 arc welding robot, with AccuFast™ laser-based seam finding and ComArc LV (low voltage) seam tracking capability. Its high-speed turntable, with 355 kg payload capacity per side, offers a dual-station configuration that facilitates easy loading and unloading of parts. The fully integrated weld package includes a Miller Auto-Continuum™ power source with Insight Centerpoint™ arc data monitoring software to effectively improve and track weld quality.
  • MotoSight™ 3D BinPick is the next generation of vision technology for bin picking applications. The system on display will use a single 3D camera with integrated lighting to quickly and easily recognize and pick parts that are randomly placed in bins. 3D CAD matching provides simplified, accurate part registration, allowing even complicated parts to be identified.
  • Our sister division - Yaskawa America, Inc., Drives & Motion - will feature a 3D printer developed in cooperative effort with Titan Robotics. Designed with a strong, rigid framework and Yaskawa servo control, this new printer delivers 3D printing at 350 millimeters per second, setting a dramatically higher standard for additive manufacturing speed. A Yaskawa MP3300iec machine controller achieves the productivity with standard G-code, using an open source GUI for easy customizing of user controls.

Advanced Technologies

  • Yaskawa’s new Smart Pendant will be available for a hands-on programming experience.
    Featuring a tablet-style interface, it offers a fast, simple learning curve and is ideal for novice robot programmers. The patented, built-in Smart Frame technology allows the robot to adapt to the position of the programmer, eliminating the use of conventional coordinate (X, Y, Z) frames and resulting in easy robot jogging.
  • Yaskawa Cockpit™ is a new software platform that monitors, accumulates and visually delivers operational data in real-time for networked production environments. Its integrated approach provides the ability to synchronize all factory and operational knowledge and enables companies to implement data-driven optimized planning, maximizing efficiency and throughput. A key component of Yaskawa’s i3Mechatronics vision of Industry 4.0 and the Industrial Internet of Things (IIoT), Yaskawa Cockpit is integrated, intelligent and innovative.
  • Building on the success of the powerful YRC1000 controller, the new ultra-compact and lightweight YRC1000micro is the smallest robot controller in its class. The YRC1000micro has a space-saving design, enabling installation in a vertical or horizontal position, as well as mounting capability within a standard 19-inch equipment rack.
