To address employment gaps, customer demands and ongoing disruption, companies are implementing innovative tools including, capable yet easy-to-use robots for optimized production stability, operational efficiency and product quality. Along with this, decision makers are identifying necessary skills and investing in the appropriate training to build a highly adaptive workforce that can operate new technologies for maximum return on investment.

While 74% of organizations agree that retraining their current employees with advanced skills is highly important for production readiness1, only 42% have stepped up their reskilling efforts since the global pandemic2. While this hesitation is understandable, other factors including upper management resistance, employee buy-in, lack of time and inadequate training resources also continue to be key factors for the lag in retraining efforts.

Forward-thinking Upskilling Programs
To smooth the advanced technology learning curve and help facilitate many of the resources needed, various state workforce agencies are working closely with motivated manufacturers within their respective states to identify skill needs and promote existing programs to fill talent gaps. Often involving a comprehensive mix of in-class and hands-on training, course curricular reflects the latest equipment used in the industry, preparing students to be “work ready” on day one of employment.

Certification programs, such as the State of Ohio’s TechCred program, enable Ohioans to learn new skills, while helping in-state employers build a stronger workforce. Courses typically take a year or less to complete, and over 4,000 tech-focused credentials can be earned in a variety of fields including manufacturing technology, information technology, construction technology, military and smart transportation, IoT and cybersecurity, healthcare technology, business technology, and robotics and automation.

With respect to the latter robotics category, Yaskawa Motoman’s training facility, Yaskawa Academy, is an Ohio TechCred-approved credential provider, with current industry recognized credentials offered in:

  • Yaskawa Motoman Robotics DX100
  • Yaskawa Motoman Robotics DX200
  • Yaskawa Motoman Robotics FS100
  • Yaskawa Motoman Robotics MLX100
  • Yaskawa Motoman Robotics MLX200
  • Yaskawa Motoman Robotics NX100
  • Yaskawa Motoman Robotics YRC1000
  • Yaskawa Motoman Robotics YRC1000 Advanced Arc Weld Programming
  • Yaskawa Motoman Robotics YRC1000 Basic Programming
  • Yaskawa Motoman Robotics YRC1000 Maintenance with Programming Overview
  • Yaskawa Motoman Robotics YRC1000 Operator
Funded by the state, Ohio employers can apply for the program and submit for course reimbursement via TechCred.Ohio.gov. Learn more about Ohio TechCred’s eligibility guidelines, application procedure and reimbursement process!

Other Education Opportunities
Like the Ohio TechCred program, other states have similar workforce partnerships available. If you are an employer in another state, please check with your state government to see if a workforce training reimbursement program – versed in Yaskawa robots – is available for your organization. If not, Yaskawa Motoman stands at the ready to work with all states to make sure access to the curriculum can be made available.

As always, manufacturers (from any state) that are not using the Ohio TechCred program are still welcome to send their employees to Yaskawa Academy (or any of our MERIT program locations across the country) for IACET-approved robotics training.

Similarly, other high-quality, comprehensive STEM and education solutions are available through our trusted regional education partners. From STEM robotics platforms to certified educational training, Yaskawa Motoman works with a number of innovative experts to help meet your Department of Education and workforce training needs.

Visit Yaskawa at the Ohio State Fair!
Yaskawa Motoman is excited to be featured in the Ohio Department of Development booth at the Ohio State Fair! Taking place in Columbus, Ohio (July 27-August 7) at the Ohio Expo Center and State Fairgrounds, Yaskawa will showcase several family-friendly robotic demonstrations that highlight the importance of STEM education and workforce development within the State of Ohio.
